Shasta County Teen, Son of Arch Collaborative CEO, Honored for Heroism at California State Capitol

Article

REDDING, Calif., April 25, 2025 – Arch Collaborative proudly celebrates the extraordinary bravery of 15-year-old CadeJohnson, son of Arch CEO Kimberly Johnson, who was honored this week at the California State Capitol as one of the state’s 9-1-1 Local Heroes.

Cade was nominated by Shasta County Sheriff Michael Johnson and recognized during a ceremony on the west steps of the Capitol in Sacramento. The national and international 9-1-1 for Kids program honors young people who demonstrate exceptional courage and quick thinking in the face of emergency.

On January 11, 2024, Cade’s family home was the target of a horrific arson and shooting attack from a stranger. As flames spread and gunshots rang out, Cade quickly called 911, staying on the line even after being struck twice by gunfire. Despite his injuries, he remained calm and focused—protecting his four younger siblings, relaying crucial information to dispatchers and offering strength in a moment of chaos.

“Cade’s bravery is extraordinary, but what’s just as powerful is how he and his family have walked through the aftermath—with strength, vulnerability and grace,” said Adrienne Cushman, head of the Chief Program Officer of Strategic Collaboration with Arch Collaborative. “Many traumatic events often happen out of public view, but behind the scenes, we work every day to support victims, stand with families and ensure that justice and healing are never out of reach.”

While Cade’s heroism has now been recognized publicly, the original crime was not widely known in the community. Like many traumatic events, its impact unfolded quietly, felt most deeply by those directly affected. These are the moments when the most important, often unseen, work begins—when agencies like Arch Collaborative, in partnership with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office, step in to support victims, pursue justice and help families begin the healing process.

Cade was honored alongside three other youth heroes from across California, each recognized for lifesaving actions in moments of crisis. The event was hosted by 9-1-1 for Kids, with support from state lawmakers and public safety officials.

Arch Collaborative extends its deepest gratitude to 9-1-1 for Kids, Assemblymember Hadwick, Sheriff Michael Johnson, SHASCOM (the Shasta Area Safety Communications Agency) and all the first responders and justice partners who continue to serve the community with dedication and compassion.
